Specifications Definition

What are Technical Specifications?

Technical specifications are formal technical documents issued by a pump purchaser that describe in detail the construction, performance, and testing requirements applicable to the pumps to be purchased.

When a pump user prepares to purchase one or more centrifugal pumps they will typically release engineering drawings that show the pumps in final installed configuration as well as a technical document describing in detail the performance, design, construction, and testing requirements that pumps must meet. In addition, the technical documents may reference data sheets which provide additional detail and clarification regarding the project requirements.

The pump supplier is responsible for ensuring that the pumps quoted and supplied are compliant with the requirements of the specifications. Any point to which the pumps do not comply are referred to as exceptions to the specifications and must be approved and allowed by the purchaser before the pumps will be accepted and paid for.
